MPs Najib Miqati, Minister Mohammed Safadi, Ahmed Karami, and Qassem Abdelaziz met Sunday to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon given the parliamentary consultations to appoint a new prime minister scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
They warned in a statement after the meeting that developments in Lebanon are threatening the creation of a "dangerous national divide," holding officials responsible for reaching the necessary solutions to end the crisis "to steer Lebanon away from the possibilities of internal collapse."
The MPs also warned of Israel's latest statements over Lebanon should Hizbullah take control of the government.
They concluded by saying that their contacts are ongoing to end the crisis, stressing that their meetings will remain open.
Meanwhile, Naharnet has learned from sources from the MPs that they delayed reaching an agreement on the parliamentary consultations after receiving information that they will be postponed at the behest of the French-Qatari initiative aimed at ending Lebanon's political crisis.
The sources revealed that information indicates that the March 8 camp has not yet completely agreed on nominating former PM Omar Karami to head a new government.
Given this reality, it was learned that Miqati and Safadi agreed to name the same candidate should an agreement be reached on one.
Should the consultations lean towards a confrontation between Hariri and the opposition's candidate, then the four Tripoli MPs are likely to vote for the former.
