A delegation from the Special Tribunal for Lebanon arrived in Beirut for few hours to meet with Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, Central News Agency reported on Saturday.
The delegation thanked Charbel during the meeting for his cooperation with the tribunal probing the assassination of ex-Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
The U.N. officials hailed the interior minister’s role in speeding up procedures in order to facilitate the STL’s work in Lebanon.
According to the News Agency, the delegation left Beirut without meeting with any other senior officials.
The report added that Charbel stressed to the delegation his keenness on strengthening cooperation between the Lebanese authorities and the court.
He noted that his ministry is exerting efforts to arrest the four indicted suspects.
The tribunal has issued arrest warrants for four Hizbullah members accused of the assassination and its judges are currently mulling whether to try them in their absence, should they fail to be arrested.
However, according to the report, Charbel said that investigations didn’t lead to any new information about the whereabouts of the suspects.
Hizbullah has continuously dismissed the court as a U.S.-Israeli conspiracy and its leader Hassan Nasrallah has vowed that no party members wanted by the STL will ever be found.
