The General Security announced the arrest of a Syrian individual over his involvement with the Islamic State group and who had been recruiting members in Lebanon in favor of the organization, the National News Agency reported on Saturday.
“In the context of following up on the activities of terrorist groups and dormant cells, the Lebanese General Security arrested a Syrian man, identified with the initials (H.M.A) for links to the IS terrorist organization,” the General Security Directorate General said in a communiqué.
The detained had admitted during interrogations that he was traveling across the country using a forged Iraqi identity card, and promoting support and recruiting members in favor of the group on social media platforms.
After the conclusion of investigations, the detained Lebanese was referred to the concerned judiciary.
