Turkey Says to Form 'Joint Group' with KSA on Khashoggi, Denies U.S. Aiding Probe
Turkey and Saudi Arabia will form a "joint working group" to look into the disappearance of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi, a Turkish official said on Thursday.
The journalist vanished last week after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
Turkish officials have said The Washington Post contributor may have been killed inside the consulate, but they haven't offered any evidence. Saudi Arabia has denied the allegation as "baseless."
A spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the state-run Anadolu Agency that Turkey and Saudi Arabia have agreed to set up the group to jointly "shed light" on the incident.
Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said the proposal to set up the committee was made by Saudi Arabia.
Turkey earlier on Thursday denied a claim by U.S. President Donald Trump that American investigators were working with both Ankara and Riyadh to probe Khashoggi's disappearance.
"The information that the United States has tasked investigators over the Khashoggi case is not correct," said a Turkish diplomatic source quoted by the state-run Anadolu news agency.
Trump earlier said "we have investigators over there and we're working with Turkey and frankly we're working with Saudi Arabia."
