Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri announced Wednesday that “all we can do is to pray for the government to be formed.”
Berri also warned over the economic situation in the country and the “dangerous developments” in the region, telling MPs that he prefers to hold back on a legislative session that he had intended to call for in light of “the current situation and circumstances.”
The new cabinet was on the verge of formation on Monday after the Lebanese Forces accepted the portfolios that have been assigned to it but a last-minute hurdle over the representation of the so-called independent Sunni MPs has surfaced.
Hizbullah has backed the MPs' demand and refrained from providing Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri with the names of its own ministers in a bid to press him to accept giving a seat to the aforementioned Sunni grouping.
