Interior Minister Raya el-Hassan on Thursday stressed during the launching ceremony of a program aimed at developing procedures in Lebanese prisons, that improving prison conditions “is an urgent need for prisoners,” the National News Agency reported.
“Improving the conditions in prisons is an urgent need based on human rights,” said Hassan during the launching of the program funded by the US embassy’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
Hassan stressed the need “to proceed with all that proves the prestige of the State."
She announced a “series of field tours in coordination with the Internal Security Forces Directorate, to inspect prisons in order to develop appropriate plans to improve their situation.”
Hassan also extended her gratitude to the US Embassy for its support.
