The Mustaqbal bloc condemned on Tuesday Hizbullah senior official Mohammed Yazbek’s statements that United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon is not welcome in Lebanon, noting that they may increase the party’s isolation
It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “Such remarks may negatively affect the country.”
“The government should respect the relationship between Lebanon and the United Nations, whether regarding the cooperation with the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon or with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon,” it noted.
“Ban’s visit to the country is a central development in the ties between Lebanon and the international organization,” said the bloc.
Yazbek said on Saturday “Ban, (U.N. Special Envoy) Terri Rod Larson, and the messenger of evil and conspiracy’s (U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs) Jeffrey Feltman are unwelcomed in Lebanon.”
Addressing the wage hike dispute, the Mustaqbal bloc said: “The issue has become a tragedy over the government’s unprecedented failure in resolving this issue … and the negative repercussions the people have to bear because of this failure.”
