Speaker Nabih Berri hoped on Wednesday that efforts will be speeded up in petroleum excavation in order for Lebanon to move on to the drilling phase.
He said during his weekly meeting with MPs at Ain al-Tineh: “The sooner we begin the excavation, the sooner we begin to seriously tackling the country’s economic and financial problems.”
“This will naturally positively affect the situation in Lebanon,” he stated.
On January 4, the cabinet approved the executive decrees for the law on oil excavation in Lebanon’s territorial waters.
Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil said that finalizing the decrees was a step that “highlights the seriousness of the Lebanese government and Lebanon in addressing this issue.”
Addressing the wage hike dispute in Lebanon, Berri revealed before the MPs that efforts are underway to resolve the issue soon.
“Stalling in resolving the problem will negatively affect the people and the government’s credibility,” said the speaker.
