Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun stated on Tuesday that some sides are seeking to “obstruct” the role of Change and Reform ministers in the government, urging the cabinet to seriously deal with the electricity crisis.
He called on the Lebanese “who are paying their electricity bill to prepare themselves for a peaceful demonstration over the crisis.”
He made his statements after the Change and Reform bloc’s weekly meeting at Rabiyeh.
Aoun continued: “We will not allow anyone to harm us.”
The MP added that the location and date of the demonstration will be announced later.
“We will not surrender or run away. We are ready for the battle. The state will either function properly or it will remain crippled,” he stated.
“We have come to rectify what they have ruined, and now those who have created the chaos are once against obstructing state functioning,” he remarked.
In September, the government approved Energy Minister Jebran Bassil’s electricity plan to produce 700 megawatts at the cost of $1.2 billion.
“Some sectors in Lebanon have plunged deeper into chaos between 1990 and 2005 and all the energy ministers that have assumed the role after 2005 have admitted that Lebanon is suffering from an energy crisis,” Aoun stressed.
He stated that he does not want the presidency, but is seeking the rise of the republic.
Indirectly addressing President Michel Suleiman, he declared: “They sought the election of a president who would act as a referee between the rival political camps, but instead we have a president who acts against us.”
“The ministries we are in control now will be in better shape in 2013 than the way they were when we took over them,” the MP said.
“We represent the Lebanese people and we will not allow anyone to harm us,” Aoun added.
