Prime Minister Najib Miqati held talks Friday at the Baabda Palace with President Michel Aoun.
The National News Agency said the two leaders tackled “the general situations and the atmosphere of Cabinet’s discussion of the 2022 draft state budget, in addition to the electricity file and the need to carry out steps that would specify its course in a final and clear manner.”
“We agreed on holding a Cabinet session at the Baabda Palace at 2pm Thursday so that Cabinet finalizes its studying of the state budget on the same day, even if the session lasts for hours,” Miqati said after the talks.
He added that in light of the presence of accumulating topics that must be studied in Cabinet, another session will be held on Tuesday at the Grand Serail to take the appropriate decisions.
Asked whether there will be a treasury loan for the issue of electricity, Miqati said the loan will not be part of the draft state budget that will be sent to parliament.
“We must know if we will have permanent electricity or not. Partial solutions and giving a treasury loan each time as has happened throughout the past 30 years is something opposed by the ministers,” the premier added.
“We need a complete and clear electricity plan through which we would know when we will have 24/7 electricity and our current situation,” Miqati went on to say.
