Feltman Visits Beirut to Condole Lahoud Family, Relays Letter from Biden

Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffery Feltman on Monday offered his condolences to the family of late ex-MP Nassib Lahoud, who passed away on Thursday after a long battle with illness.

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly accompanied Feltman in his visit to the house of the late Lebanese politician in Baabdat, Northern Metn.

Feltman handed Lahoud’s spouse a letter of condolences from U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden stresses in the letter that the United States would continue to support Lahoud’s dream to see a strong and independent Lebanon.

Feltman registered a word in the book of condolences, eulogizing the late deputy as the best symbol of decency and professionalism.

"We hope your memory would remain a source of inspiration to all of us," Feltman noted down, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency.

Feltman will wrap up his visit to Lebanon at dawn, NNA said.

It remains unclear whether he will hold talks with Lebanese officials during his visit.

Feltman visited Lebanon in December and held talks with Lebanese officials on the security and political situation in the country and the region, especially in Syria.

He also held talks with Lahoud during the December visit.
