Prime Minister designate Najib Mikati criticized Tuesday the "theatrical" raid carried out by Mount Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun on the Central Bank.
Aoun had entered the bank earlier on Tuesday, after a sate security patrol searching for Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh was not allowed to get in.
Beirut Public Prosecutor Judge Raja Hamoush ordered the patrol to leave the place. Aoun said they had previously obtained the permission to raid the bank.
"Raiding the Central Bank in a theatrical manner is not the right way to address the problem," Mikati said.
"We're not defending anyone," he added. "But we hold onto a fair and non-selective judiciary."
The PM-designate urged for a political consensus on a new Central Bank Governor, before letting the law take its course.
He also stressed his keenness on the financial reputation of Lebanon internationally.
