Phalange Party Slams Govt. over 'Nepotism in Appointments'

The Phalange Party on Monday slammed Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s government over the issue of administrative appointments, accusing it of “nepotism.”

“It has become clear and evident that the dominant approach is the approach of nepotism, at the expense of the national interest,” the party’s political bureau said in a statement issued after its weekly meeting.

“Under the excuse of achieving the alleged interests of the sects, the government is destroying” the state’s structure, the party warned.

It also cautioned that “the security situation in the country has become exposed at all levels,” noting that “the security threats the political leaders are facing … would paralyze the political and democratic life, undermine stability and impede the economic cycle.”

The party lauded “the efforts exerted by the security agencies to unveil some threads of the conspiracy,” but lamented that “these efforts were not properly tackled by the government.”

“Should things persist … a new government must be formed” in order to confront “this dire period in the history of Lebanon and the region,” the party added.

Addressing the Syrian crisis, the Phalange Party voiced regret that “the U.N. Security Council failed to adopt decisive measures to protect the lives of people in the Syrian cities, support the path towards democracy and enable the Syrian people of freely deciding its own fate.”
