Presidency denies Aoun will issue decree accepting govt. resignation
The Presidency on Sunday dismissed as "totally baseless" media reports claiming that President Michel Aoun intends to sign "a decree accepting the government's resignation."
"Analyses about other steps that President Aoun intends to make are being based on these fabricated reports. The Press Office categorically denies these reports and stresses that they are totally baseless," it said.
"They are part of deliberate distortion and the systematic smear campaign against the presidential post and the president in person," the Presidency's Press Office added, slamming what it called "lies and fallacies."
Constitutional experts have stressed that such an action does not exist in the constitution and that the caretaker cabinet, as per the constitution, had automatically been considered resigned following the May 15 parliamentary elections.
