U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly stressed on Wednesday that the U.N. remains committed to further consolidating was has been achieved since the adoption of Security Council resolution 1701.
He said after meeting with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour: “The United Nations remains deeply committed to promoting the security and stability of Lebanon.”
“In my meetings so far today, I have also briefly discussed the longstanding cooperation between Lebanon and the United Nations in so many different fields,” he added.
“I look forward to working with the Lebanese authorities to further deepen our joint efforts for the welfare and development of Lebanon and its people,” said Plumbly.
The talks with the foreign minister also focused on issues relating to the Office of the U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon, as well as the situation in the region.
Earlier on Wednesday, he had met with Prime Minister Najib Miqati and later President Michel Suleiman and Speaker Nabih Berri.
Newly-appointed U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Derek Plumbly, arrived in Beirut on Saturday to officially take up his new responsibilities.
U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon appointed Plumbly, a British diplomat, as his special coordinator last month, succeeding Michael Williams of the United Kingdom.
