Bassil in Paris for high-level meetings with French officials

Free Patriotic Movement Jebran Bassil traveled Wednesday morning to Paris, al-Jadeed said, to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron's adviser.

It is not clear whether a meeting with Macron is possible, the media outlet said. Al-Akhbar newspaper also said that a meeting with Macron is not sure.

According to the daily, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is brokering the meeting between Bassil and Macron.

Al-Akhbar reported that the FPM chief will meet with French diplomat Emmanuel Bonne, Director of the Directorate-General for External Security Bernard Émié and officials from the French Foreign Ministry to discuss with them presidential, governmental and economic matters.

The newspaper added that French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo had arrived in Paris, few days ago, to prepare for Bassil's visit and to brief the French leadership on the results of her talks with Lebanese parties over the presidential file, governmental challenges and economic issues.

Bassil will also meet with journalists in Paris on Wednesday afternoon, media reports said.
