Should consensus be secured over a new president, Saudi Arabia has expressed desire to see ex-PM Tammam Salam designated to form a new government, sources said.
“The kingdom has sent signals to Salam in this regard in light of its confidence in this Beiruti figure who had assumed the PM post in the past and whose performance was upright, patriotic and unifying,” the sources told al-Jadeed TV.
“But every visitor of Salam leaves with an impression that the ex-PM is not enthusiastic to return to the premiership before knowing the name of the new president, so that the experience of conflict within the government does not get repeated, as used to happen with MP Jebran Bassil,” the sources added.
