Army probe yet to unveil Qornet al-Sawda incident circumstances

The investigations that the army is conducting regarding the killing of the two young men Haitham and Malek Tawk in the northern region of Qornet al-Sawda have so far not managed to “draw a clear picture of the incident’s circumstances,” a media report said.

“The investigators continue to interrogate the detainees, whose number stood at 22 – 15 from Dinniyeh and 7 from Bsharri -- after the release of some of them,” al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Investigators meanwhile inspected the site where Haitham Tawk was killed in order to collect evidence, after having looked into the reports of forensic doctors and experts.

According to al-Akhbar, investigators are looking into four hypotheses regarding the death of Haitham Tawk: the possibility that he was hit by the gunfire of his companions, the possibility that the gunfire came from one of Dinniyeh’s residents, the possibility that he was hit by a stray bullet, and the possibility that he was hit by army fire seeing as the area is labeled as a military zone and the army had warned against approaching it.

As for the death of Malek Tawk, investigators believe that he might have been killed by army fire by mistake, seeing as a number of Bsharri residents had opened fire in the area following Haitham Tawk’s death and the army “might have responded in kind,” the daily said.
