Slim unharmed after his car hit with gunfire in Jisr el-Bacha

Caretaker Defense Minister Maurice Slim announced Thursday that he was unharmed after the rear door glass of his car was hit with gunshots in the Jisr el-Bacha area.

Ruling out an assassination attempt, a military source and a security source told AFP on condition of anonymity that Slim's vehicle was hit by "a stray bullet" whose origin was unidentified.

In remarks to al-Mayadeen TV, Slim’s press office said it could not confirm whether the gunshots were stray bullets or from an assassination attempt.

Al-Jadeed television meanwhile quoted residents as saying that they did not witness any unusual incident in their area and that several buildings in the area were hit by stray bullets during the funeral of the Hezbollah member who was killed Wednesday in the Kahale area.

The funeral was held in the Ghobeiri area, which lies around 4.5 kilometers away from Jisr el-Bacha.

A senior Lebanese Army official said an investigation was underway to find out if the minister was targeted. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
