Former U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale has called for the implementation of U.N. Resolution 1701 and for turning the tables on Iran and its proxies in the region when the war on Gaza ends.
Since the war in Gaza began, there have been near-daily clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces along the Lebanon-Israel border, with fears of an escalation to a full-scale war.
On the Lebanese side, more than 140 people have been killed, most of them Hezbollah fighters -- including one announced on Thursday -- but also more than a dozen civilians, three of them journalists, according to an AFP tally.
On the Israeli side, four civilians and seven soldiers have been killed, according to officials.
Hale also said, in an interview with MTV, that implementing Res. 1701 will put a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of the army.
He added that it is a good time for continuity in the army command "at a time of war in the region" and amid "a potential of a greater escalation" in Lebanon, lauding the extension of the term of Army chief Gen. Joseph Aoun.
