Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has met with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani in Jerusalem and asked for Rome’s assistance in finding a diplomatic solution to Hezbollah’s presence on Israel’s northern border.
“I requested his intervention vis-a-vis the Lebanese government to oust Hezbollah from southern Lebanon,” Katz tweeted, “or else Lebanon will face a devastating blow it won’t recover from.”
Since the outbreak of war between Hamas and Israel on October 7, the Lebanese-Israeli border has witnessed a near-daily exchange of fire between Israel's army and Hezbollah. At least 202 people have been killed in south Lebanon, 147 of them belonging to Hezbollah.
The fighting has also displaced tens of thousands of residents on both sides of the border and Israel has warned that it is ready to use military force to return its settlers to their homes.
