Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil on Monday held talks with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh, as part of a series of meetings he has launched to discuss the presidential crisis.
“We agreed that consensus would be much better than election and what’s important is to secure the success of the presidential tenure alongside securing the election itself,” Bassil said after the meeting.
“I’m not carrying an initiative and it’s not my job, but we are seeking with everyone to finalize the constitutional juncture,” the FPM chief added.
Responding to Marada Movement chief Suleiman Franjieh’s suggestion that the Marada chief run against Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea in the presidential vote, Bassil said: “He who wants to propose himself or LF leader Samir Geagea for the presidency must first know how to calculate (the number of MPs that each bloc contains).”
“He should know who is the first (among Christians). We used to have one person who didn’t know how to count and now we have two,” Bassil added, in an apparent jab at both Franjieh and Geagea.
