Israel-Hezbollah border clashes: Latest developments

Israeli artillery shelled Wednesday Kfarshouba and Wadi Hamoul in south Lebanon, while warplanes raided Aita al-Shaab, al-Khiam and al-Dhayra and a drone struck a power line in al-Taybeh.

Later on Wednesday, Hezbollah said it targeted buildings used by Israeli troops in the Metula settlement near the border in response to Israeli strikes on a number of buildings in the southern towns of Khiam and Kfarshouba.

It added that the attack on Metula caused deaths and injuries and set the buildings on fire.

Hezbollah also claimed an attack on Israeli spy equipment near the Birkat Risha Israeli post.

Israeli warplanes had also targeted Shebaa overnight.

On Tuesday, Canada urged its citizens in Lebanon to leave "while they can", and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned that a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah could spark a regional war.

Eight months of cross-border violence has killed at least 481 people in Lebanon, mostly fighters but also including 94 civilians, according to an AFP tally.

Israeli authorities say at least 15 soldiers and 11 civilians have been killed in the country's north.
