Qatari envoy Abou Fahad Jassem Al-Thani will soon visit Beirut on a trip aimed at discussing the security situation in the south, not the presidential file, a media report said.
“The Qatari envoy will meet with Hezbollah, the Amal Movement and security chiefs to discuss with them the possibility of de-escalation on the southern front” with Israel, al-Akhbar newspaper quoted informed sources as saying.
The visit will be “coordinated with the U.S. administration, which has asked Doha to exert efforts in this regard,” the sources said.
“The U.S. administration is betting that the Qatari pressures on the Hamas Movement to accept U.S. President Joe Biden’s proposal for ending the war in the Gaza Strip, combined with a bigger Qatari intervention on the Lebanese arena, specifically with Hezbollah, could lead to a breakthrough that prevents an all-out war,” the sources added.
