The Phalange Party criticized on Monday the current crisis in the government, saying that it has demonstrated that it is incapable of settling the smallest of disputes.
It said in a statement after its weekly politburo meeting: “The solution to the crisis should adhere to the constitution and respect the role of the president and prime minister.”
In addition, it noted that the government was not even capable of tackling the people’s concerns during the snowstorm that lashed Lebanon over the weekend in that it has failed to meet the minimum requirements of reopening roads blocked by the snow or restoring power to areas that have witnesses severe power cuts.
“These are not major issues linked to the situation in the Middle East, but fundamental matters that have been left unresolved because of the government’s negligence,” it noted.
Prime Minister Najib Miqati has suspended cabinet sessions over a dispute with the Free Patriotic Movement over administrative appointments.
Addressing the Syrian developments, the Phalange Party remarked that the violence had reached a “very dangerous point in that it has become stronger than any other approach to the crisis.”
The party voiced its solidarity with the Syrian people, urging all Lebanese to take a similar stand.
Furthermore, it noted that a return for stability in Syria and its adoption of democracy “will pave the way for better relations between it and Lebanon.”
