Paris believes that the Lebanese presidential file is still on the table despite the impressions that it will not be resolved before the end of the current Hezbollah-Israel clashes, a senior French source in Paris said.
“The French embassy is actively seeking a solution,” the source told Annahar newspaper in remarks published Wednesday.
“It is true that the assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh and Fouad Shukur led to deviating attention from the presidenial file to the security situation and the fighting, but Paris and its ambassador to Lebanon Herve Magro are exerting utmost effort to keep the file of electing a president strongly on the table,” the source added.
“Since June and July, there has been progress among the political players regarding the issue and there is a list of names that is being discussed by all parties,” the source revealed.
