Three people were killed in an Israeli strike on Beirut's Cola area Monday, a Lebanese security source said, the first strike on the city itself since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel last year.
According to al-Jadeed TV, the strike killed three members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine -- Nidal Abdel-Al, his son-in-law Abdel Rahman Abdel-Al and Imad Awdeh.
Israel has frequently targeted Beirut's southern suburbs, where Hezbollah has a strong presence, including a major strike on Friday that killed Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, but had not hit locations inside the city itself. The area where the strike took place is a primary Sunni district with a busy thoroughfare lined with shops and residentials buildings.
There was no immediate comment from Israeli officials.
