Death toll from strike near Rafik Hariri Hospital rises to 18
More than 1,550 people have been killed in bombardment by Israel since it intensified its air campaign on Lebanon last month.
Lebanon's health ministry reported 63 killed in "Israeli enemy strikes on Lebanon" Monday, raising the death toll from an Israeli strike near a south Beirut hospital to 18. The real toll is likely to be higher due to data gaps.
Israel has carried out waves of heavy airstrikes across southern Beirut and the Lebanon’s south and east.
The Israeli military on Monday evening called on residents to leave parts of southern Beirut, a warning followed almost immediately after by a strike on the area.
- Child among 18 killed near Rafik Hariri Hospital -
Lebanon's health ministry said 18 people including a child had been killed on Monday evening in Israeli strikes near the country's biggest public hospital close to the southern suburbs of Beirut, revising upwards its initial toll of four.
Another 60 people were wounded in the strike near Rafik Hariri University Hospital, Lebanon’s biggest public hospital, located a few kilometers from the city center. Seven of them are in critical condition, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said.
The residents of Jnah near Rafik Hariri University Hospital did not receive an evacuation order.
The strike destroyed several buildings facing the hospital, causing significant damage to the hospital.
- 3 killed in Ouzai -
Three people had been killed and many others wounded on Monday evening in Israeli strikes on the densely-packed district of Ouzai.
"Three people were martyred and a large number of others were injured," in the first Israeli strikes on the Ouzai district in south Beirut, the Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Committee told AFP.
- 4 rescuers killed in 24 hours -
"Israeli enemy strikes in the past 24 hours targeted rescue teams, leading to the following bloody toll," the ministry said in a statement, listing one rescuer from a group affiliated with the Amal party and three Hezbollah-linked paramedics as having been killed in different locations.
