U.S. optimism on reaching a Lebanese-Israel ceasefire deal has reached its highest level in a year, a Lebanese government source told Al-Jazeera on Monday.
“We have remarks about a clause in the U.S. draft that is related to Israel’s right to self-defense,” the source said.
“The clause is ambiguous and needs to be re-formulated and linked to Resolution 1701,” the source added, noting that “there is no justification for forming an international ceasefire monitoring committee, especially that the Tripartite committee has been in place since 2006.”
“We will not accept any clause in the ceasefire draft that might require an amendment of Resolution 1701,” the official added.
