Israeli army says 'committed' to Lebanon ceasefire

The Israeli army is committed to the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon and the 60-day period is “a gradual phase to ensure the elimination of Hezbollah's threat,” Israeli army spokesman Daniel Haggari said on Monday.

“It is in the interest of the Lebanese government not to allow any threat by Hezbollah to Israel’s security,” Haggari added, in remarks to Sky News Arabia.

“The Lebanese people must ensure that the areas that border Israel are free of weapons that threaten Israel’s security,” Haggari went on to say.

Since the ceasefire went into effect on Wednesday, Israel has been accused of carrying out over 52 violations of the ceasefire agreement, some of which have been deadly, including three airstrikes near Sidon.
