A Lebanese Army officer was found dead inside his car after he was targeted in an Israeli strike, the Lebanese Army said on Monday.
The officer had gone missing on November 26, the army said in a statement, adding that it is carrying out the necessary investigations.
Al-Akhbar newspaper meanwhile identified the officer as Lebanese Navy Captain Hassan Younes, saying his body was found in Ras al-Naqoura.
“Contact was lost with Younes more than a week ago, before the Lebanese Army was told by UNIFIL about the presence of a car containing the body of a person donning a military uniform,” al-Akhbar said.
“Lebanese Civil Defense members pulled out the body yesterday and preliminary inspection showed that the car was targeted by an enemy drone strike around a week ago,” the daily added.
