Paris talks to Hezbollah, Aoun talks to US, committee to meet soon

The Lebanese Army has decided to reinforce its current presence in south Lebanon by deploying 6,000 more troops at once in the entire area that lies south of the Litani River, a media report said.

The French defense and foreign ministers will meanwhile arrive in Beirut in the coming hours, amid French communication with Hezbollah to guarantee that it will abide by the ceasefire agreement, al-Akhbar newspaper reported.

Army Commander General Joseph Aoun is “urging the Americans to convince Israel to stop its violations, facilitate the army’s deployment mission and withdraw the occupation forces before the end of the two-month timeframe,” the daily said.

The five-party committee tasked with monitoring the ceasefire will meanwhile convene in the next two days, the newspaper added.

The committee is chaired by the U.S. and comprises France, Lebanon, Israel and the UNIFIL forces.
