The Development and Liberation parliamentary bloc led by Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday lauded caretaker PM Najib Mikati’s call for holding a Cabinet session in the southern city of Tyre.
“Such a step reflects Lebanon’s commitment to absolute seriousness in the implementation of U.N. resolution 1701 with all its stipulations,” the bloc said in a statement.
It added that the Cabinet meeting, which will be held Saturday at the Benoit Barakat military barracks, reflects “support for the Lebanese Army and its role of deploying in the South Litani Area all the way to the international border with occupied Palestine, assisted by the UNIFIL force.”
The bloc also hoped the session will lead to “practical decisions that would secure all the requirements of the Lebanese Army and also to the approval of a plan for reconstructing what has been destroyed by the Israeli aggression.”
It added that such a plan should dispense compensations to affected industrial and commercial institutions as well as farmers.
