Calm returns after clashes involving Palestinian camp and northern town

Cautious calm was on Tuesday engulfing the al-Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp and the neighboring northern town of Wadi al-Nahleh near Tripoli following overnight clashes that lasted until dawn, the National News Agency said.

The clashes left one person wounded and caused material damage, prompting the army to intervene and send reinforcements to contain the situation and pursue the perpetrators, NNA added.

Media reports said that clashes started after gunshots were fired from the al-Beddawi camp toward Wadi al-Nahleh, prompting young men from the town to respond in kind.

“The gunfire at first targeted the home of A. S., aka al-Askari, who had recently appeared in a social media video during his seizure of a truck loaded with food aid from the Iranian state to the al-Beddawi camp that carried pictures of Hezbollah former chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah,” the reports said.

According to the reports, al-Askari later distributed the aid to his area’s residents.

“The clashes reached the al-Mankoubin area (in Tripoli), with stray bullets falling across all neighboring areas,” the reports said.
