Friday’s meeting between President Joseph Aoun and Speaker Nabih Berri lasted 45 minutes and was aimed at “coordinating Lebanese stances prior to U.S. envoy Tom Barrack’s visit” to Lebanon, which will take place on Tuesday, MTV said.
It noted that Barrack’s second paper which was handed by the U.S. embassy to Lebanese officials included a request that Hezbollah issue a “clear” public stance on its willingness to hand over its weapons.
“Berri gave the Americans guarantees that Hezbollah would accept to gradually hand over its arms and endorse the proposed plan if Israel take an encouraging step in this regard,” MTV added.
