The March 14-led opposition will not hold a popular rally to mark the anniversary of the Cedar Revolution; instead it will hold a general assembly meeting.
Unlike all its popular rallies at downtown Beirut’s Martyrs Square held in previous years, the number of people attending the March 14, 2012 gathering will be limited because of the turmoil that took place in the Arab world over the past year.
According to An Nahar newspaper published on Wednesday, the March 14 forces fear that some of Syria’s allies in Lebanon might cause security problems during the event.
Sources told the daily that the meeting will include the professional, youth, political and all the civil society sectors affiliated with the March 14 coalition.
“The meeting will be in the form of a general assembly,” the sources said.
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea told reporters on Tuesday, that the March 14 leaders will meet in BIEL and propose a document on their vision.
The March 14 alliance was formed after the Feb. 2005 assassination of ex-Prime Minister Rafik Hariri marking the rise of the Cedar Revolution that forced the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon in April of that year.
