Israeli projectile hits open area in Mar Roukoz-Dekwaneh, circumstances unclear

A projectile, that likely came from an Israeli warplane, on Tuesday hit an open area near a car company's parking lot in the Mar Roukoz-Dekwaneh area east of Beirut, creating a large crater in the ground and damaging vehicles and a nearby kiosk but causing no injuries.

The sound of a warplane could be heard in a video of the incident that was accidentally filmed by a man from a nearby hill. The man apparently thought that an airstrike would target Beirut's southern suburbs.

"Lebanese security forces have cordoned off the site of the strike, which hit an area considered to be part of Dekwaneh, but there is no evidence that it was a targeted attack, and its causes and circumstances remain unclear," MTV said

"A team from the Army Engineering Regiment inspected the targeted site in the Mar Roukoz-Dekwaneh area. The inspection revealed that the missile landed near a company's parking, damaging a large number of vehicles and leaving a deep crater in the ground," the National News Agency said.

Earlier, NNA and other media outlets had erroneously reported that the "strike" had hit "an apartment" in nearby Mansourieh.

Residents of the region heard an explosion and saw black smoke rise from the area, which contains many factories and furnished rental apartments.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army.
