Security agreement reportedly in the works: What does it include?

A security agreement that is in the works will include "timetables for disarming all illegal militias, starting with Hezbollah and extending to the smallest Palestinian faction," a Lebanese government source said.

"This will be accompanied by reciprocal Israeli steps, including the return of Lebanese citizens held in Israeli prisons, in addition to reducing the area of confrontations that Israel attacks according to its ‘right’ to act against any threat directed at it, and finally, a phased withdrawal," the source told al-Joumhouria newspaper.

The same source added: “Lebanon will receive logistical support in the form of armored vehicles, weapons, and equipment for dismantling mines, installations, and missiles, as well as technical support from U.S. military officers. However, Lebanese officials do not believe that the support offered so far is sufficient."

"Therefore, during their contacts and expected visits over the next two weeks to friendly countries, particularly European ones, the Lebanese officials will seek technical and logistical support for the Lebanese Army," the sources said.

The source noted that the Lebanese government "aspires to expedite the implementation of the disarmament plan in order to end the state of war the country is experiencing as quickly as possible, especially since the public treasury is burdened with a deficit, and the state may not be able to support the displaced in the long term."
