US official says Hezbollah 'bears sole responsibility for Israel's presence' in Lebanon
A U.S. State Department spokesperson has said that Hezbollah "bears sole responsibility for Israel's presence on Lebanese soil," following the latest deadly Israeli strikes in south Lebanon.
"This is precisely why Hezbollah must be disarmed and dismantled," the spokesperson said.
"The pilot zone process remains the only viable path to long-term peace and security for Lebanon and Israel. We look forward to the LAF's (Lebanese Army's) completion of clearance operations in the first pilot zones and, after clearance is verified, the process will expand. The disarmament of Hezbollah is an integral part of this process," the spokesperson added.
They said that the United States will continue to support the Trilateral Framework "in keeping with our interest in regional stability, the prevention of further conflict, and President Trump's agenda of promoting peace between nations."
The spokesperson added that "Hezbollah has been the primary obstacle to Lebanon's economic recovery, the only blemish on its international reputation, and the biggest threat to the safety and stability of Lebanon."
"It bears sole responsibility for Israel's presence on Lebanese soil. This is precisely why Hezbollah must be disarmed and dismantled," they added.
