Bassil says Hezbollah 'continuing policy of destroying the country'
Free Patriotic Movement chief Gebran Bassil has said that he distinguishes between the FPM’s position, Hezbollah's position, and the government's position regarding the talks with Israel.
“We do not refuse negotiation, but we want something in return. They (ruling authorities) depicted to the Lebanese that there is a major achievement, but what has actually been achieved is the destruction of the country rather than (Israeli) withdrawal,” Bassil said in an interview on Al-Jadeed TV, referring to the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
Hezbollah meanwhile “bears a greater responsibility than the Lebanese state because, despite being powerless, it continues its policy of destroying the country and altering Lebanon's demographic composition and fabric," Bassil charged.
"I hold Hezbollah responsible because it does not know how to exit this crisis while being part of the government," Bassil added. He asked: "How can you consider yourself victorious if your entire country is defeated? Doesn't Hezbollah have a responsibility to initiate establishing a defense strategy within the government? We are not telling Hezbollah to surrender, but we are telling them: find alternatives so that the Lebanese people feel that you sympathize with them."
