Iran is studying the U.S. proposals contained in a letter from U.S. Vice President JD Vance, amid a positive atmosphere surrounding the path of negotiations and expectations of a breakthrough in the coming period, sources told Al-Arabiya television on Saturday.
The sources added that Vance's proposals are receiving a positive response within Iran, noting that the letter included general principles and outlines for negotiation and did not include a complete plan.
The sources explained that Tehran has formed committees to discuss the U.S. proposals regarding its nuclear program, while an Iranian delegation is in Qatar to discuss matters that require additional clarifications.
They emphasized that the discussions are taking place regarding successive steps, and a complete proposal has not yet matured. They explained that communication with the Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaee, and the mediators is being conducted directly.
The sources stated that Iran requested guarantees regarding a permanent and comprehensive cessation of the war in exchange for opening the Strait of Hormuz.
They added that there are expectations of holding a new round of negotiations, but it is too early to determine its date.
