Aoun: We won't accept to share our sovereignty with anyone

President Joseph Aoun stressed Thursday that Lebanon is an independent and sovereign state, stating that "we will not accept anyone sharing our sovereignty, so that we do not pay the price of past mistakes again."

He called on those who seek empowerment from the outside against their compatriots to instead draw strength from their own people against the outside.

Aoun also considered positive neutrality a necessity to isolate Lebanon from regional conflicts, noting that what this country has endured up to today is enough.

“It is no longer capable of bearing further axis-based disputes, greed and desires for hegemony,” the president added.

“Distancing Lebanon from external ambitions and fortifying national unity protect the Lebanese entity at a time when the region is passing through a phase of turmoil as a result of the accelerating military and political developments,” Aoun went on to say.

Aoun's remarks came as he received at the Baabda Palace former Minister and MP Michel Pharaon, who presented him with the second part of the book "Lebanon's Official Neutrality and the Neutrality of the Lebanese within the Framework of the Arab League: In Diplomacy, Culture, Memory, and Education"

The book was published following a series of meetings addressing the topic of neutrality, organized by the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (ADAA) in cooperation with a group of intellectuals, researchers and experts.
