The head of the public drivers syndicate, Bassam Tleis, called for a strike on April 19 to protest the government’s failure to set a ceiling for rising fuel prices.
“Our main demand lies in setting the ceiling for the prices of gasoline at LL25,000 and diesel at LL20,000,” Tleis said in a press conference he held at the General Labor Confederation headquarters on Wednesday.
He said however that the door for dialogue remained open to resolve the crisis.
The government and involved ministries should “work immediately” to find a solution to the problem, he said.
Gasoline prices rose again on Wednesday with the price of 98-octane graded fuel reaching LL36,900 after increasing by LL700.
The 95-octane graded fuel rose by LL600, now costing LL36,200. The price of diesel went up by LL400, costing LL31,600.
