The Maronite bishops council condemned on Wednesday the escalatory tone that has been adopted by political officials in Lebanon.
It urged in a statement after its monthly meeting officials “to set as a priority the people’s concerns over their own.”
This includes filling vacancies in state administrations and resolving the food scandal that has erupted in Lebanon in recent weeks, it added.
The council also warned of the deteriorating economic situation in Lebanon and its negative impact on the people and state.
Addressing regional disputes, the bishops lauded efforts to end the conflicts, while also praising the Lebanese people’s choice to confront these challenges through dialogue.
They therefore hoped that an Arab Christian-Muslim summit would be held in order to bolster dialogue among peoples of the region.
