Geagea Calls for Eradication of Lebanon’s ‘Evil’

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea said Thursday that Lebanon’s development and economic problems would not be resolved as long as the “evil” continues to grip the country.

“We won’t be able to achieve our objective in terms of a capable and effective institutional state before the eradication of the evil,” Geagea told a visiting delegation.

“Education, agriculture, water, electricity, roads and pollution … won’t improve as long as the evil is controlling the country and people can’t express their opinions,” he stressed.

“Is it forbidden to have different opinions in politics,?” Geagea asked. “Should we eliminate the other point of view through killings and assassinations?”

Geagea escaped an assassination attempt earlier this month when snipers failed to shoot him at long distance as he was walking in the garden of his fortified residence in Maarab.

“It seems that it is prohibited for someone … to grow bigger than his (political) size,” he told the delegation.

Targeting the government, Geagea said his murder attempt was “planned by a big team with high tech capabilities that are only owned by armies and major powers under the gaze of the Lebanese state.”

“If it was aware of it, then this is a disaster and if it was not, then this is a bigger disaster,” he said.
