U.S. Ambassador Maura Connelly visited Prime Minister Najib Miqati at the Grand Serail on Friday, a day after his cabinet survived a vote of confidence.
Miqati and Connelly “discussed areas of cooperation between the two countries and regional events,” said a U.S. embassy statement.
“She renewed the commitment of the United States to a stable, sovereign and independent Lebanon,” it said.
Miqati survived a vote of confidence after a three-day parliamentary session that witnessed harsh criticism from the March 14 opposition to the government and verbal attacks between March 8 and opposition lawmakers.
63 MPs granted the government the vote of confidence after March 14 lawmakers withdrew from the assembly as Phalange MP Sami Gemayel and his party members Fadi al-Habr and Samer Saadeh voted no.
