Limestone Cave Discovered in Southern Lebanon
Security forces are now guarding a newly discovered grotto in the southern district of Tyre pending a move by the tourism ministry to take responsibility of the cave.
The limestone cave lies in an area between the towns of al-Nfakhiyyeh and Srifa.
The judiciary ordered the guards to the entrance of the grotto and closed the roads leading to a nearby stone crushing plant after its discovery.
Ali Badawi, the official in charge of archeological sites in the south, said the grotto is 100-meters long.
Lebanon is famous with Jeita Grotto in the Nahr al-Kalb valley. It is a Lebanese national symbol and a top tourist destination.
