The March 14 General Secretariat condemned on Wednesday the heated political and “sectarian rhetoric” that was used during last week’s general parliament session, blaming the Hizbullah and Change and Reform bloc MPs of being behind the tensions.
It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “The two blocs are responsible for the tensions that serve the Syrian regime.”
“The session helped regain memories of the dark chapter of Lebanon’s history, which those two political blocs have resorted to in order to threaten the country’s future,” it added.
It also slammed Hizbullah and the Change and Reform bloc’s threats “of sparking a civil war in Lebanon,” saying that such a goal will not be accomplished.
“They believe that such a threat will help them end their crisis at the expense of Lebanon and the Lebanese people,” said the general secretariat.
It therefore called on the Lebanese people to defend peace in Lebanon, stressing: “The Lebanese should stand against attempts to tamper with the fate of the country.”
“The March 14 forces will mobilize under the title of protecting Lebanon’s peace through all possible democratic methods,” continued the statement.
In addition, it said that official authorities are responsible for preventing Hizbullah and the Change and Reform bloc MPs from dragging the country towards strife.
“The March 14 forces launched this imitative out of their belief that Lebanon deserves a better future and it considers protecting the country a Lebanese duty, as well as an Arab and international one,” it stated.
Parliament held a three-day general session last aimed at assessing the government’s performance, which also highlighted the ongoing tensions between the rival March 8 and 14 camps.
