Wahhab on Tawhid Office Bombing: Some Sides are Targeting Me and Jumblat

The head of the Tawhid movement Wiam Wahhab refused on Friday to accuse any side of being behind the bombing of his movement’s newly-established office in the early morning hours of Friday.

He said during a press conference: “Some sides are targeting me and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat.”

“The movement won’t accuse anyone because the security forces have started an investigation in the incident,” he continued.

“Everyone must know that we have gone passed the phase of intimidation as the Tawhid movement has become an integral part of Mount Lebanon,” declared the former minister.

On some claims that the PSP was behind the bombing, Wahhab said that the office is located one kilometer away from Jumblat’s residence, while his is six kilometers away.

“Some sides are seeking to create strife in Mount Lebanon. I won’t allow it,” he stressed.

A 600-gram dynamite targeted one of the offices the Tawhid movement in the Shouf district.

The explosives went off at 1:00 am on the staircase of the office in the area of al-Samqaniyeh and Baqaata that Wahhab was set to inaugurate on Friday evening.

The bomb injured one person and caused extensive material damage, the movement said.

In a statement it issued later in the day, Tawhid condemned the “cowardly criminal attack,” saying it showed signs of “professional terrorism.”

The inauguration of the office was expected to take place on Friday, but it was postponed after the death of the head of the Druze spiritual authority, Sheikh Abu Mohammed Jawad Walieddine.

Meanwhile, Hizbullah condemned the bombing, saying it is aimed at creating strife in Lebanon.

It also questioned the “suspicious timing of the attack”, voicing its solidarity with the members of the Tawhid movement.

“All sides must remain diligent in order to avoid falling victim to strife,” said the party in a statement.

The Tawhid movement later revealed that Prime Minister Najib Miqati had telephoned Wahhab to condemn the bombing.

The Free Patriotic Movement’s Shouf branch also slammed the incident, saying that is aimed at destabilizing the region.
