Rocket Fired from Gaza Hits Israel, None Hurt

A rocket fired from Gaza landed in southern Israel overnight, causing no damage or casualties, a military spokeswoman said on Thursday.

"A rocket fired from Gaza landed last night in the Shaar Hanegev area. There was no damage or casualties," she told Agence France Presse.

Militants in Gaza have fired more than 300 rockets into Israel since the beginning of this year.

Israel responds to the rocket fire with air raids, which have left 25 people dead, 14 of them members of the Islamic Jihad militant group.

Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, maintains a tacit truce with Israel, but other groups in the territory occasionally fire rockets into the Jewish state.
